France to Ban Nicotine Pouches to Protect Teenagers

The French Minister of Health has revealed plans to ban nicotine pouch products, aiming to shield adolescents from their potential dangers. The official announcement is anticipated in the coming weeks.

As reported by Politico.eu on October 30, Health Minister Geneviève Darrieussecq highlighted a growing concern over nicotine pouches, which have become increasingly common among teenagers in France. She described these items as “dangerous products” due to their high nicotine levels, necessitating a forthcoming ban.

Earlier this year, in June, twelve EU health ministers, including France, urged the European Commission to introduce restrictions on market-available nicotine products and to prohibit flavored e-cigarettes.

In a recent interview, Minister Darrieussecq expressed significant concern over the rising number of acute nicotine pouch-related syndromes reported to poison control centers, with some cases being alarmingly severe. She asserted, “It is our responsibility to ban the sale of such products.”
